Database Exam

Wednesday 15 August 2007

Ah, my first exam went quite crap. Didn't know aught about certain things.

These were the basic information about the database exam:
The exam was for only 2hours :( I wish it was longer.
The sql was based on Ordering Pet Products.

There were 6 tables as I remember:

  • Customers
  • Orders
  • Products
  • Invoice_totals
  • Supplied_by
  • Suppliers
Q1. Drawing a ER-Diagram of the Pet Database, saying what type of relationship are each of them.

Q2. What does the 5 different types of Keys mean and give an example of each using the SQL Database:
Surrogate Key
Primary Key
Atomic Key
Composite Key
Foreign Key

Q3. About the database being consistent
Why should the database be consistent and give example why this database isn't.
What does database being correct mean and give example why this database could be not correct
How can it be consistent but not correct?

Q4. 5/6 Questions about why certain queries should not work (2 marks each)

Q5. Creating certain queries of certain condition asked

Q6. Create a certain table of certain criteria(2 marks), why might this break integrity(3 marks), and how could you use a sql of this and why is this better than creating a table.

For Q2 about the different keys, can someone tell me what is an ATOMIC KEY? As I don't even know what that is, and tried searching through a search engine but nothing. The closest thing I saw was Atomic Value, but the exam paper said Atomic KEY?!? grr

1 down, 2 to go.

Wish me luck during the exam as I totally need it!!! Talk about the exam soon after the exam lol!
